Wills and Bequests
Make a gift in your will
You can make a gift that will make a real difference to the work of the Skin and Cancer Foundation Inc.
It will provide support for the treatment of those affected by skin diseases and skin cancer that will endure well into the future.
Your gift will have real, positive impact and have lasting effect. It will leave a true legacy in your name.
Use your will to make a real difference
The Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc conducts world-class
research into a range of debilitating skin disorders and skin cancer. We
collaborate closely with other international research teams, and our work has
been published widely overseas and in Australia.
And your support can help pay for the clinical treatment of those patients who need it, yet cannot afford it themselves.
The Foundation also leads the promotion of skin health in
the community through education in dermatology including the education of
dermatologists, trainees and other health care professionals.
And all this work is conducted at the Skin & Cancer Foundation's centre of excellence in Melbourne.
Help us continue this work.
Making a bequest in your will is very simple, and very rewarding
The process of making a gift in your will is very simple.
If you already have a will, then all you need to do is add a
codicil, which is a bit like an addendum. It is a supplement to the Will that
puts into force your want to make a gift through your Will.
If you do not have a Will, then it is a good idea to get
some legal advice and have one prepared. One option, if you do not have a
solicitor, is to see the Public Trustee, and they will draft one for you. There
is a Public Trustee office in each State & Territory.
The least complicated way of making a gift in your Will - after making provision to look after your family and other beneficiaries - is to require that a proportion or percentage of your estate is left to the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc.
The words to use
PLEASE TAKE THIS TO YOUR SOLICITOR for the inclusion of the bequest in your Will.
The words that you could use could be:
“I give and bequeath to the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc, for its exclusive use, (specific percentage of my estate), or (a specific sum), or (specified items), or (the residue of my estate), free of all duties, taxes or deductions, and a receipt from an authorised officer of Skin & Cancer Foundation inc shall be a complete and sufficient discharge of the Executor(s) for this bequest."
YOUR WILL MUST BE SIGNED IN THE PRESENCE OF TWO WITNESSES, WHO MUST ALSO SIGN IN THE PRESENCE OF EACH OTHER, but your solicitor will make all the necessary arrangements for you.
Your solicitor might also want the following information about the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc:
- ABN 58
895 584 259
Level 1, 80 Drummond Street, Carlton, Victoria 3053
(03) 9623 9400; Fax: (03) 9639 3575
Foundation is registered as a deductible gift recipient (DGR), and is endorsed
for charity tax concessions (CTC), by the Australian Taxation Office.
A codicil is an amendment to your existing Will and becomes part of your Will.
PLEASE TAKE THIS FORM OF CODICIL TO YOUR SOLICITOR who will discuss it with you and engross it into a Codicil which accords with all necessary legal requirements.
CODICIL of ____________________________________________________ (your full name and address)
This Codicil is dated_____(day) of ___________________(month) __________(year) in all respects except that I add the following clause: I give and bequeath, free of all duties taxes and deductions, the sum of $ _____________ or (specific percentage of my estate), or (specified items), or (the residue of my estate), to the Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc for its general purposes. And I direct that a receipt from an authorised officer of Skin & Cancer Foundation Inc shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the Executor(s) for this bequest.
If you would like to discuss this with someone at the Foundation, or would like some more information, please call Peter Monaghan, our Director of Corporate Affairs on 03 9623 9400. He would be pleased to talk with you.
