Photodynamic Therapy Clinic

Photodynamic therapy is prescribed for the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma, nodular basal cell carcinoma and Bowens disease.

Treatment occurs in two stages, with preparation of the lesion to be treated and application of cream initially, followed by the application of light therapy to the area three hours later. It usually requires two treatments, 2 weeks apart but no longer than 7 weeks, and patients are reviewed by the prescribing doctor 2-3 months after treatment.

Photodynamic therapy may also be prescribed for treatment of thin or non-pigmented actinic keratoses.

These areas are only given one treatment and then reviewed by the prescribing doctor in 2-3 months. A second treatment may then be given if necessary.
